The 2008 NEC has had a great success rate when it comes to state adoption. Yes it is the "National Electrical Code" but it is not immediately adopted upon release in every state and every jurisdiction. The NEC is reviewed by each jurisdiction over a period of about 3 years.
The map here shows the progress to date.
- The states with local adoption are marked with an L
- Blue states reflect adoption without amendment to section 210.12 (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters)
- The yellow states show those that amended AFCI. Most deal with smoke detectors or keeping the AFCI in bedrooms as defined in the 2005 version of the NEC.
- Indiana is the only state that has removed teh AFCI requirement from the code.
