NEC 2008 State Adoption

The 2008 NEC has had a great success rate when it comes to state adoption. Yes it is the "National Electrical Code" but it is not immediately adopted upon release in every state and every jurisdiction. The NEC is reviewed by each jurisdiction over a period of about 3 years.

The map here shows the progress to date.

  • The states with local adoption are marked with an L
  • Blue states reflect adoption without amendment to section 210.12 (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupters)
  • The yellow states show those that amended AFCI. Most deal with smoke detectors or keeping the AFCI in bedrooms as defined in the 2005 version of the NEC.
  • Indiana is the only state that has removed teh AFCI requirement from the code.

Electricity Safely Does Many Good Things

On one hand you have to understand that electricity can be dangerous but on the other hand electricity makes alot of what we do possible. Typing on the computer you are using right now to read this would not be possible without electricity for example.

Electricity wakes us up in the morning, let's us see at night and it can keep us safe by doing all of these things and more. Remember, electricity can be dangerous but it also makes many things possible.

Electrical Problems are All Around Us

Electricity is something we can't see and it can kill us. It is where we work, where we play, where we shop and even where we live. Literally electricity is all around us and it is important that we understand what it can do and how to properly work and live with it.

This Blog is a chance to share the examples of what you should and shouldn't do. A good chance to share those examples of how technology can make life safer. We don't do enough these days for electrical safety. Awareness is the first step.
